ExplainVids uses very little. The optional part is one switch covering two measurement tools, and nothing loads either of them until you say yes.

Necessary — always on

These make the site work at all. They cannot be switched off, and they do not track you across other websites.

Sign-in session

Firebase Authentication stores your session in your browser so you stay signed in. Cleared when you sign out.

Your unsaved work

Your draft brief and the film you are editing are kept in your own browser so a refresh does not lose them. This never leaves your device.

Analytics — only with your consent

If you accept, two tools measure how the site is used, so we can see what is worth improving. Neither is used for advertising, and nothing from either is shared with anyone for theirs. One switch covers both.

Google Analytics for Firebase

Counts which pages and features are used. Aggregate numbers, not a record of one person’s visit.

Microsoft Clarity

Records the session itself, so we can watch back where people get stuck: pages viewed, where the pointer moved, what was clicked and scrolled, the size of your screen, and the page as it was drawn for you. Its cookies (_clck and _clsk) are what tie those events into one session. It runs on the two landing pages and inside the app; the legal pages are not recorded.

What Clarity does not get: it masks text you type, so what you enter in a form — your brief, your email, your password — is not captured, and card details never reach the page in the first place. We use it to find broken steps, not to watch individuals.

If you decline, neither one is loaded at all — not loaded and disabled, but never fetched, and clarity.ms is never contacted. Declining is the default until you choose.

You can switch it either way at any time, right here:

Turning it off stops the recording immediately and nothing loads on any page after that. Your browser’s own settings can also block or clear all of this, though blocking the necessary items will sign you out.
